Syria arrests former Republican Guard general Mard Mohammad
Syrian internal security forces have arrested Mard Mohammad, a former brigadier general in the Republican Guard associated with the administration of ousted president Bashar al-Assad. Known by the nickname ‘Guardian of the Capital’, Mohammad is accused of serving as a field military commander during operations in various areas of the Damascus countryside.
According to official statements, Mohammad was involved in military actions in locations including Qaboun, Al-Hameh, Wadi Barada, Qudsaya, Ain Tarma, and Jobar. He is also cited for his role in leading military operations conducted under the name ‘God’s Promise Is True’.
Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to gather further evidence regarding his specific roles and actions before legal and judicial proceedings are initiated. This arrest follows the September 19 detention of another senior Republican Guard commander, former major general Ahmad Mohammad Ismail.
