Syria's Interior Minister Anas Khattab orders emergency safety steps after Deir ez‑Zor‑Damascus crash

A traffic accident on the Deir ez‑Zor‑Damascus highway between al‑Sakhna and Tadmur on Saturday killed 35 people and injured 30. Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab visited the victims in Homs hospitals and announced immediate safety actions.

The ministry will activate road‑security patrols, set up mobile and fixed traffic‑control points, and create a unified operations centre in coordination with the ministries of emergency, health and communications. The centre will provide a direct line for rapid response. Khattab also pledged cooperation with the defence ministry’s helicopters for faster evacuation of injured persons and said longer‑term road expansion work will continue while short‑term measures aim to curb speeding and improve road‑side communications.
