SYRIZA approves alliance with Tsipras' Greek Left front

The Central Committee of SYRIZA voted by a roughly three‑quarter majority to endorse the proposal of party president Socrates Famellos for a joint electoral cooperation with Alexis Tsipras' Greek Left Alliance (EL.A.S.). The Political Secretariat subsequently confirmed the decision, officially opening the path for SYRIZA to run together with the new left coalition. The move marks the end of SYRIZA’s attempt to remain an autonomous centrist force and signals a strategic shift toward a united progressive front aimed at challenging New Democracy and the Mitsotakis government in the upcoming national elections. While senior figures such as Pavlos Polakis, Nikos Papas and Rena Dourou had initially urged a more cautious approach, their proposals were rejected and the party leadership emphasized the need for a consolidated left‑wing bloc.
