SYRIZA calls for return of DEI to state control

Nikos Pappas, Secretary of the SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, has called for the return of the Public Power Corporation (DEI) to state control. During a visit to Western Macedonia, Pappas proposed that the Social Insurance Review Institute (EFKA) should serve as a national investor for the energy sector instead of CVC Capital Partners.

Pappas criticized the current government's approach to de-lignitization, describing it as a violent process that lacks a clear transition plan and threatens social stability in the region. He advocated for maintaining at least 10% of lignite production to ensure national energy security.

Additionally, the SYRIZA leader raised concerns regarding local issues in Kozani, including the future of district heating, the potential energy and water consumption of a proposed data center, and the need to protect local jobs during the energy transition.
