SYRIZA criticizes Greek Education Minister over private university ruling

The SYRIZA political party has issued a sharp critique of Greek Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki following a ruling by the Council of State. The court decision annulled the operating licenses and curricula of three private universities due to legal issues identified in their licensing processes.

SYRIZA questioned the Minister's credibility after she preemptively announced that two of the institutions would regain their licenses within a week, and a third shortly thereafter. The opposition party raised concerns regarding how the Minister could know the outcomes of inspections by the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs (EOPPEP) and the Hellenic Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency (HQA) before those official processes had concluded.

Furthermore, SYRIZA accused the government of treating the judicial ruling as a mere technicality to be bypassed through administrative changes rather than a binding legal obligation. The party argued that such actions undermine the independence of regulatory authorities and the institutional functioning of the state.
