SYRIZA nominates Elena Akrita for Greek Parliament Vice President

The SYRIZA party has nominated MP Elena Akrita for the position of Vice President of the Hellenic Parliament. This decision follows the departure of Olga Gerovasilis from the SYRIZA parliamentary group, who has since declared herself independent and is reportedly moving toward Alexis Tsipras's new political initiative, EL.A.S.

Rena Dourou, President of the SYRIZA parliamentary group, praised Akrita as a “combative and active colleague” who can contribute significantly during a period when the Parliament faces challenges regarding democratic values. The nomination is expected to be confirmed through a formal vote in the Plenary.

In addition to internal restructuring, SYRIZA's Political Secretariat met to discuss the party's relaunch and its upcoming participation in the Thessaloniki International Fair. The party also issued a sharp critique of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, dismissing his government's economic claims as “propaganda” and arguing that the average citizen continues to struggle with high costs and debt.
