SYRIZA Central Committee backs alliance with Alexis Tsipras' ELAS

The Central Committee of SYRIZA voted by a wide majority – estimates range from about 70 % to 75 % – to endorse a political cooperation with the new party of former prime‑minister Alexis Tsipras, the Greek Left Alignment (ELAS). President Sokratis Famelos framed the decision as a response to the question “Are we beside or opposite the Tsipras initiative?” and declared, “There is no room for a plan B – we stand beside it.”

A minority of members, including Pávlos Polakis, Nikós Pappás and Rena Dourou, submitted amendments demanding a clearer roadmap and warning against a de‑facto dissolution of SYRIZA. Their joint proposal was rejected by a large margin. The vote signals a shift toward a unified progressive front for the upcoming elections, while internal dissent over the strategy is likely to continue.
