SYRIZA internal rift as six secretariat members push for coordinated coalition

Six members of the SYRIZA Political Secretariat—Tryfon Alexiadis, Rena Dourou, Fotini Karystinaki, George Panagiotopoulos, Nikos Pappas and Pavlos Polakis—submitted an amendment titled “No to self‑dissolution, yes to coordinated cooperation.” The text rejects any scenario of party dissolution or suspension and calls for the party to contest upcoming elections as a coordinated entity rather than through individual agreements.

The amendment proposes creating a round‑table with other progressive forces, including former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Nikos Kotzias, Louka Katseli and New Left, to develop a common programme and election strategy. It also outlines organisational steps such as establishing an Executive Office, ballot‑handling and programme committees, and an election‑organising committee. The move is framed as a response to SYRIZA’s poor poll numbers and aims to prevent further marginalisation of the party.

The proposal directly challenges the line of SYRIZA president Sokratis Famellos and seeks a vote at the party’s Central Committee, with the outcome expected to signal the future direction of the Greek centre‑left alliance.
