SYRIZA leader Rena Dourou defends collective leadership model

Rena Dourou, President of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group, has defended the party’s transition to a collective leadership model, describing it as a conscious political choice rather than a temporary compromise between officials. Speaking in an interview, Dourou argued that moving away from person-centered leadership is essential to avoid the mistakes of “messianism,” which she claims has historically harmed the Left and the credibility of the political system.

Dourou also addressed the party's future, stating that SYRIZA intends to participate in the upcoming Thessaloniki International Fair (DETh) with specific policy proposals to combat the cost of living. She emphasized that the party aims to represent a pluralistic Left and social democracy, positioning itself as a catalyst for the reorganization of the progressive political space.

Additionally, Dourou offered self-criticism regarding the party's recent trajectory, citing a period of “moral devaluation” caused by certain officials who prioritized political survival over ethical advantages.
