SYRIZA leaders press Socrates Famelos to seal pact with Alexis Tsipras
Party officials warned SYRIZA leader Socrates Famelos that an agreement with former prime minister Alexis Tsipras must be reached immediately. Nikos Papas told ERTnews that the deal should be secured “before the summer break” and that Famelos should explain any personal step‑down to the public. He added that the party’s poll numbers have fallen from 10 % to 2 % under Famelos and called for a coordinated dialogue rather than individual negotiations.
In a separate interview, MP Pavlos Polakis demanded that Famelos bring an agreement with Tsipras within ten days, otherwise the party’s executive bodies would reconvene to reassess the situation. Polakis warned that without a deal the party cannot present a united front in the upcoming elections and urged a “unified ballot” with other democratic forces. Both officials criticised the lack of a clear strategy from the SYRIZA leadership and stressed the need for rapid action to stop the party’s electoral decline.
