SYRIZA official claims top 1% of Greeks hold €200 billion in wealth

Nikos Nyfoudis, deputy spokesperson for the SYRIZA party, has claimed that the wealth of the richest 1% of Greeks amounts to €200 billion. He cited a “Global Database” as the source for these figures while discussing a proposed “patriotic contribution” tax.

During an interview with ERT, Nyfoudis stated that international organizations track wealth and inequality, providing the basis for this assessment. When questioned by journalists regarding the specific identity or methodology of this “Global Database,” Nyfoudis did not provide a specific name or reference, noting that as an economist, he has only been reading up on the matter in recent days.

The proposed “patriotic contribution” is intended as a one-time levy. The party estimates this measure could generate €2 billion, as part of a broader €7.5 billion program.
