SYRIZA parliamentary group falls to 10 members
The SYRIZA parliamentary group has seen a significant reduction in its strength, falling to just 10 members following the expulsion of MP Nina Kasimati and the decision by former Vice President Olga Gerovasili to become an independent MP.
This shift reorders the parliamentary hierarchy in Greece. SYRIZA has dropped to the fifth-largest parliamentary group, falling behind Greek Solution, which now holds 11 seats. This represents a major decline from the 48 seats the party held following the 2023 elections.
The changes also impact the leadership of the Greek Parliament. Following Gerovasili’s departure from the party, a vacancy has been created for the position of Vice President of the Parliament, which is reserved for the fifth-largest parliamentary group. SYRIZA has proposed MP Elena Akrita for the role.
