SYRIZA prepares for leadership election as Pavlos Polakis signals candidacy
The Greek political party SYRIZA is preparing for a leadership election following the resignation of Sokratis Famellos. As the possibility of early national elections in the autumn diminishes, the party is shifting focus toward electing a new president and Central Committee through a vote of its members and supporters, likely aimed for the spring.
Currently, the party is operating under a collective leadership structure to maintain stability. This interim arrangement includes Rena Dourou as president of the parliamentary group, Nikos Pappas as secretary, and Pavlos Polakis in charge of political planning.
Pavlos Polakis has signaled his intention to run for the leadership, asserting that his political line will ensure the party's parliamentary representation. His candidacy has been publicly supported by close associate Vassilis Smpokos. Rena Dourou is also expected to be a candidate, viewed as a figure capable of facilitating alliances with various political figures and groups.
