SYRIZA proposes amendment to reduce fuel excise tax

The SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance has announced the submission of an amendment to reduce the excise duty on fuels to the minimum levels permitted by European Union directives. The party's move comes in response to rising heating oil prices.

SYRIZA criticized the government, claiming that the administration has previously cited a lack of fiscal space and EU restrictions as reasons for not acting, which the party describes as excuses. They noted that several other EU nations, including Italy, Germany, and Spain, have already implemented fuel tax reductions.

Additionally, the party is calling for an emergency meeting of the Parliament's Economic Affairs Committee to discuss the early repayment of 13 billion euros in debt and to examine alternative uses for those resources.
