SYRIZA proposes SME support and debt regulation in Thessaloniki

Rena Dourou, leader of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group, has called for immediate implementation of party proposals to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and regulate private debt. Speaking in Thessaloniki during a meeting with productive sectors, Dourou described SMEs as the ‘backbone of Greek society,’ noting the significant pressures and closures they have faced over the last decade.

SYRIZA’s proposals include measures such as a ‘13th pension’ and specific support for small businesses. Dourou criticized both the current government’s neoliberal policies and other progressive parties for failing to challenge SYRIZA’s stance on these issues. She emphasized that while the party seeks programmatic convergence with other leftist parties, political differences remain.

Nikos Papas, Secretary of the party’s Central Committee, added that there is political room for such measures, accusing the New Democracy government of being untruthful regarding the feasibility of a 13th pension and SME support. He also urged PASOK and other political actors not to support the government’s position.
