SYRIZA-PS demands accountability over Kypseli children case

The SYRIZA-PS opposition party has launched a sharp institutional critique against the Greek government and state authorities regarding the case of the children from Kypseli. The party’s Social Cohesion and Welfare sector is demanding accountability from the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, questioning what was known about the children's situation, their removal from parents, and their prolonged stay in a children's hospital.

SYRIZA-PS is also questioning the role of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office and the Police. The party seeks clarification on why the children were effectively lost while under state protection and what investigations were conducted to locate them. The party claims that the children were eventually taken by their father without proper intervention.

The opposition party argues that Greece lacks a functional child protection system, describing a fragmented process where children are removed from abusive environments only to be held in hospitals for months or placed in inadequate institutional care. SYRIZA-PS accused the political leadership of indifference, stating that abused children lack political power, lobbies, or votes.
