Syros Cats offers free housing for volunteers on Greek island
Animal‑welfare group Syros Cats on the Greek island of Syros is opening applications in September for its 2027 volunteer cohort. The program seeks volunteers to work at the shelter for at least one month, five days a week and about five hours each day. Selected participants receive a private bedroom, free breakfast and a partial reimbursement of living costs, while transport and meals are self‑funded.
Volunteers will feed stray cats, clean water and food bowls, disinfect cages, administer medication to sick cats, socialize kittens, and perform physical tasks such as carrying up to 15 kg bags of food and garden maintenance. Those with social‑media or craft skills can also help prepare donation items. The shelter accepts applicants of any nationality who are adults, prefers candidates over 25 with good English, and values prior veterinary or shelter experience. Capacity is limited to four volunteers at a time.
