Syros crime investigation: Lawyer disputes robbery claim in rescuer's death

Legal proceedings are advancing following a fatal incident in Syros involving a 41-year-old EKAB rescuer. The Syros Misdemeanor Court has ordered the pre-trial detention of a 40-year-old man accused of the fatal attack.

Marianna Kikiri, the lawyer representing the victim's family, disputes the defense's claim that the incident was an attempted robbery. She asserts that the crime occurred outside the residence and characterized the defendant's actions as an “aggressive strike.” Initial rumors regarding family disputes or rent debts have been dismissed, as the residence in question belonged to the accused couple.

The defendant maintains he acted in self-defense after an unidentified individual entered his home armed with a knife. Investigators noted the victim was carrying a backpack containing a crowbar and an air pistol at the time of the incident.
