Syros: Elderly man dies after being pulled from the sea

An elderly man has died after being pulled unconscious from the sea at Galissas Beach on the island of Syros.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at a crowded area of the beach. Swimmers discovered the man unconscious and immediately moved him from the water. A local lifeguard and doctors present at the scene provided first aid, including the use of an on-site defibrillator, but were unable to revive him.

The man was transported to the General Hospital of Syros by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead. The Syros Port Authority has launched a preliminary investigation to determine the circumstances under which the man lost consciousness in the sea.
