Syros Hospital staff unions protest disciplinary action against association president

Multiple labor unions have expressed solidarity with the Vardakeio and Protio Hospital Employees' Association and its president, Katerina Kalogeraki, following disciplinary actions taken against her. The unions condemn the initiation of a Sworn Administrative Investigation (EDE) against Kalogeraki, alleging it is a form of intimidation and silencing in response to her public statements regarding critical staffing shortages at the hospital.

Reports indicate that the hospital, which serves as a primary medical hub for the Cyclades, is facing severe personnel deficits. Specific concerns include a lack of emergency physicians, insufficient specialists in cardiology, nephrology, and urology, and inadequate staffing for blood transfusions. Unions argue that these systemic issues should be addressed through permanent recruitment and improved working conditions rather than through disciplinary proceedings against union leaders who advocate for workers' rights and public health transparency.
