Syros, Greece: Fatal Attack on EKAB Rescuer Leads Family to Claim Aggressive Assault

A 41‑year‑old rescuer from Greece’s Emergency Care Assistance Unit (EKAB) died after being struck with a kitchen knife during an incident in Ano Syros. The victim’s family says the fatal blow was an aggressive attack that occurred 50‑70 metres from the house, not a defensive act. They cite video evidence showing the woman running unharmed before being chased and struck.

The owners of the house claim the intrusion was a robbery, noting a break‑in and the theft of €13,000. The accused, also 41, says he hit the woman to protect his wife and home, describing a chaotic scene in which he threw a chair and a plant before delivering the fatal strike. He remains under house arrest pending a decision from the Criminal Court Council. Police are examining digital data from the participants’ mobile phones to clarify the circumstances.
