Syros implements water conservation measures amid supply shortages
The Syros-Hermoupolis Municipal Water and Sewerage Company (DEYAS) has implemented emergency water conservation measures on the island of Syros due to high summer demand and technical issues at a desalination plant.
Effective August 10, 2026, the operation of showers at island beaches has been temporarily suspended to reduce non-essential water consumption. This measure aims to ensure sufficient water supply for the basic needs of residents and visitors during the peak tourist season.
Nikos Skeofylax, President of DEYAS, announced that meetings will be held with the Mayor of Syros-Hermoupolis and municipal leaders to address the situation and strengthen the island's water infrastructure. The company has requested that all citizens and tourists practice responsible water use to manage the available quantities.
