System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian discusses group's touring strategy
System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian has revealed that the band is prioritizing large-scale, event-style concerts over traditional long-term tours. Speaking on the Essential Watches podcast, Odadjian noted that the members are currently enjoying playing together again, but they are taking things one step at a time without a fixed long-term schedule.
Odadjian reflected on the band's difficult period of inactivity, stating that they could have continued touring for financial gain by pretending to be harmonious, but they chose to stop instead. He shared that this period was personally challenging, involving struggles with substance use.
The group has recently performed major shows, including appearances at the Stade de France, and is scheduled to perform in Australia and New Zealand in early 2027 alongside Faith No More. The band has not released a studio album since 2005.
