System76 launches Thelio Mira AI workstations for local development

System76 has announced the launch of the Thelio Mira AI, a new category of workstation designed specifically for local artificial intelligence workloads. The hardware aims to provide a high-performance alternative to cloud computing instances, allowing developers to train, fine-tune, and run inference on models using local hardware to reduce long-term costs and enhance data privacy.

The workstation features AMD Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs and can be configured with up to two NVIDIA RTX Pro Blackwell GPUs, providing up to 192 GB of GPU memory. To prioritize graphics performance and thermal management, the system utilizes liquid cooling and opts for the Ryzen series rather than higher-cost Threadripper processors. The machines are manufactured and assembled in Denver, Colorado, and run on Linux-based operating systems such as Pop!_OS or Ubuntu.
