Systematic Review Links Toddler Screen Time to Development Issues; Checkers Suggested as Alternative

A systematic review conducted by a consortium of British researchers and published under the 1001 Critical Days Foundation found that screen exposure for children under two is consistently associated with reduced parent‑child interaction, delayed development, sleep disturbances and eating problems. The authors recommend that toddlers receive no intentional screen time.

In a separate commentary, the benefits of the board game checkers are highlighted as a screen‑free activity that can sustain children’s interest for longer periods. Checkers offers simple rules, strategic depth, and social interaction, which together help develop patience, problem‑solving skills and reduce reliance on digital entertainment.

Both pieces note that higher‑income families are more likely to limit screen exposure, suggesting socioeconomic factors influence adherence to the recommendations.
