Szaján hosts Heritage Without Borders cultural program

The ‘Heritage Without Borders’ program series recently held an event in Szaján to showcase and preserve the traditions of Hungarian communities living abroad. The day-long program at the Szaján cultural center included professional discussions, craft workshops, dance performances, folk costume demonstrations, and a ‘táncház’ (dance house).

Organized jointly by the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum’s Folk Architecture and Village Museum Center and the Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage, the initiative aims to highlight elements of the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This specific event featured the Matyó Folk Art Association, showcasing Matyó folk art, the living tradition of the csárdás, violin folk music, and the dance house method. Participants from the Matyó Dance Ensemble traveled from Mezőkövesd to demonstrate local dances and attire.
