Szczawnica to host traditional Autumn Redyk sheep festival
Szczawnica will host the XI Autumn Redyk from October 8 to 10, a traditional event celebrating the return of sheep from mountain pastures. The three-day festival features a large procession of sheep through the streets of the spa town, accompanied by shepherds, regional music, and traditional cuisine.
The program includes workshops, handicrafts, and concerts, with a performance by the band Pectus serving as the finale. The event highlights the deep-rooted pastoral culture of the Pieniny region, which dates back to the 15th century and is influenced by Vlach traditions. This year's celebration carries additional significance as the United Nations has designated 2026 as the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.
