Szczecin architect supports new pedestrian zone proposal

The City Architect of Szczecin, Marek Koguciuk, has expressed support for a proposal to transform a section of Świętego Ducha Street into a pedestrian zone. The plan, suggested by a local resident, aims to restrict vehicle traffic between the Trafostacja Sztuki and St. John the Evangelist Church to residents only, creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment.

Koguciuk noted that the initiative aligns with the concept of ‘stitching the city together’ by improving the quality of riverside spaces and addressing the barrier created by the Odra River. Additionally, the proposal includes developing the space behind the church into a recreational area opening toward Wyszyńskiego Street and the boulevards.

Representatives from the company Calbud, which is managing several nearby real estate projects, also reacted positively to the idea, noting that the current state of the street does not match its historical potential or its status as a municipal tourist route.
