Szczecin completes new 109‑million‑zloty sports complex
The new Szczecin Sports House (SDS) on Wąska Street has finished construction after three years and passed technical inspections. The 109 million‑zloty project, funded partly (65 million zł) by the Strategic Investment Programme, was built by Budimex S.A. to designs by DEDECO and overseen by Szczecińskie Inwestycje Miejskie.
The complex includes a 30‑metre, eight‑lane pool with a maximum depth of 4.6 m, a multifunctional hall suitable for futsal, handball, basketball and volleyball, a boxing arena, training rooms and extensive spectator facilities. Capacity totals 1,192 seats in the main hall, 244 in the pool area and 254 in the boxing arena, with additional spaces for VIPs, journalists and people with disabilities. Energy‑saving measures feature a water‑recycling system, heat‑recovery from pool water and a 385 kW photovoltaic installation.
Landscaping added new parking, walkways, over 4,000 m² of hard‑scaped area and thousands of trees and shrubs. The Municipal Sports, Recreation and Rehabilitation Centre will operate the venue, with a public opening expected in the autumn following a summer trial period.
