Szczecin foundation conducts dementia screening for seniors
The "Co z mamą?" foundation in Szczecin held its fourth free screening for dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, testing 12 participants in three hours. Organiser Kinga Konieczny noted that only about 20 % of Polish patients receive a formal diagnosis, leaving most care to families. Early detection can allow medication that may slow disease progression by up to 30 %.
A related health guide explains that occasional repeated questions are normal for seniors, but frequent, immediate repetitions, difficulty recalling recent events, or disorientation may signal early cognitive decline and warrant a medical consultation. The foundation plans another screening in September and will host a public chess tournament, "Dwubój w walce z Alzheimerem," to raise awareness.
