Szczecin prosecutors charge two with animal cruelty

In Szczecin, prosecutors have charged two individuals—a dog owner and a designated caregiver—with animal cruelty following an incident in August. The charges stem from the discovery of a Yorkie tied to a bed in an empty apartment on Zakopiańska Street.

Neighbors alerted emergency services after hearing continuous whining and barking from the residence. Upon forced entry, firefighters, police, and volunteers from the Animal Care Society (TOZ) found the dog severely neglected. Veterinary examinations revealed extreme dehydration, overgrown claws, an eyelid defect, and significant hair loss likely caused by a flea infestation. The dog, now named Niuniuś, has been taken into the care of TOZ. Both suspects have reportedly admitted to the charges of intentional neglect and failing to meet the animal's basic needs.
