Szeged and Timișoara improve oncological surgical care

Medical institutions in Szeged, Hungary, and Timișoara, Romania, have collaborated on a project to improve oncological surgical care using European Union funding. The initiative, which involved the University of Szeged, the Victor Babeș University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the Pius Brînzeu County Clinical Emergency Hospital, aimed to shorten the time between a cancer diagnosis and surgery.

Through structural reforms at the University of Szeged's Surgical Clinic, the project implemented an innovative IT system to organize examinations according to surgical needs. This reorganization reduced the number of required personal doctor-patient encounters while accelerating the clinical pathway without compromising patient safety. The project had a budget of 2.447 million euros and facilitates cross-border professional exchange, allowing medical teams from both regions to consult on complex oncological cases.
