Szeged National Theatre announces thirteen new productions

The Szeged National Theatre has announced its upcoming season, which will feature thirteen new productions. This includes eight dramatic plays, three opera productions, and two performances by the Szeged Contemporary Ballet, according to General Director László Barnák.

Barnák highlighted the theater's financial structure, noting that of its five billion HUF budget, more than two billion HUF comes from municipal support, while state funding accounts for only half that amount. The director expressed hope that the ratio of state to municipal support will eventually equalize, consistent with other theaters in the country.

The recently concluded Szeged Summer Festival (Szegedi Szabadtéri Játékok) attracted 70,500 spectators, with twenty of its thirty-one evenings being sold out. While the festival's budget is two billion HUF—with over half covered by ticket sales—the municipality continues to provide significant support as no additional central government funding was received this year.
