Szeged slipper heritage celebrated with exhibition and conference

The Szegedi Papucsért Alapítvány (Szeged Slipper Foundation) is hosting a series of events to celebrate and preserve the heritage of the Szeged slipper, a traditional footwear with roots tracing back to the Ottoman era.

A special exhibition titled ‘Örökül kaptuk, mit kezdünk véle?’ is opening at the Kiss Kunszt Gallery in Szeged. The exhibition features archival and contemporary pattern collections, photography of slipper makers, and fashion materials. It aims to bridge the gap between historical significance and modern design.

Following the exhibition, a professional conference titled ‘Páratlan örökség, alakuló jövő’ will be held at the Szeged Cathedral Visitor Center. The event will bring together experts in ethnography, history, and contemporary design to discuss methods for passing on artisanal knowledge and integrating traditional crafts into modern fashion and daily use.
