Szeklerland hosts traditional gastronomy and harvest festivals
Several traditional gastronomic festivals are scheduled to take place in the Szeklerland region of Romania.
In Székelyudvarhely, the Lamb and Palinka Festival will be held on October 24–25. Organized by the Székely Gazdaszervezetek Egyesülete (SZGE), the Harghita County Council, and the Order of the White Table, the event aims to revive a tradition from the 2010s. The festival seeks to promote local lamb and mutton consumption and support producers facing market difficulties due to export restrictions caused by animal diseases. The event will run alongside the Udvarhelyszék Beekeeping Days.
In Szárhegy, the Famous Szárhegy Cabbage Market and Festival will take place from October 16–18. The event celebrates centuries-old cabbage cultivation traditions through activities such as a traditional cabbage-cutting ceremony, a cooking competition, and various musical performances. Despite dry weather affecting growth rates, local producers expect high-quality cabbage for the season.
