Szentendre hosts Open Churches Weekend and StEFREM releases new album
The VI Szentendre Open Churches Weekend will take place from September 11 to 13, featuring a multidisciplinary program of music, literature, and art. Nine churches and three prayer houses in Szentendre will open their doors to the public, including Serbian Orthodox churches that are typically closed during the year. The festival's musical theme is centered on the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Performers include the StEFREM male choir, the ViGaD band, cellist Ditta Rohmann, organist András Gábor Virágh, and singer Ági Szalóki. The event also features a presentation by music historian Ádám Bősze on the life of Claudio Monteverdi, as well as a verse-music evening by poet Anna T. Szabó and musician Dániel Gryllus.
In related musical news, the male choir StEFREM is releasing its first original composer album, titled ‘Égrekiáltó’. Following a 24-year history of performing diverse repertoires, the group is transitioning toward a distinct artistic identity through this new collection of original works. The album's debut performance is scheduled for September 10 at the Hungarian Music House.
