Sziget Festival returns to Hungarian ownership in Budapest

The 2026 edition of the Sziget Festival, held on Óbuda Island in Budapest, marked a significant turning point for the event. This year was the first since the festival returned to Hungarian ownership, following the departure of Superstruct Ltd. The transition back to the original founders and local investors aims to reform the festival and emphasize its independence.

Approximately 360,000 attendees from over 110 countries participated in the five-day event. While organizers faced challenges such as delayed ticket sales and rising costs, the festival expanded its non-musical offerings. New dedicated spaces for art and performance, including Jardin des Arts and Wonderland, were introduced alongside the Budapest Park Stage to highlight local talent.

The musical lineup featured diverse acts including Twenty One Pilots, Bring Me The Horizon, Lewis Capaldi, Zara Larsson, and SOMBR. The festival also maintained its long-standing tradition of inclusivity, highlighted by the Magic Mirror venue, a dedicated LGBTQ+ space providing workshops, panels, and performances.
