Sziget Festival grapples with financial challenges while preparing Bródy János tribute concert

The organisers of Hungary's Sziget Festival are planning a six‑hour "Bródy Dalok Nap" concert to honour singer‑songwriter Bródy János. The event, announced by founder Gerendai Károly and concert director Novák Péter, will feature around fifty performers covering Bródy's repertoire, including songs from Illés, Fonográf, and his solo career.

In a separate interview, Gerendai warned that the Hungarian festival market is under significant strain. Rising production costs, a price‑sensitive audience and stronger international competition are squeezing profitability. Although Sziget generates tens of billions of forints in revenue each year, ticket sales are mixed: student passes are slower to sell, domestic season tickets have declined, and international sales have not improved despite dynamic pricing and a weakened forint increasing travel expenses. The organisers aim to secure long‑term stability as the festival enters a new independent, fully Hungarian‑owned phase.
