Sziget Festival returns to independent management in Budapest
The 2026 edition of the Sziget Festival in Budapest concluded with over 360,000 attendees from more than 110 countries. This year marked the festival's first edition under independent management following a transition from the US-based fund KKR to founder Károly Gerendai.
The event faced several challenges, including a four-month delay in ticket sales, significant debt from previous management, and climate-related issues such as extreme heat and low water levels in the Danube. To address these, the festival structure was modified from six days to five, and new 'neighborhood' areas were introduced to group similar musical genres.
Operational changes included price controls on food and drink to maintain affordability. The lineup featured high-profile headliners such as Zara Larsson, Lewis Capaldi, Bring Me The Horizon, Skrillex, and Florence + The Machine.
