Sziget Festival investigation launched over alleged drink spiking

The Budapest Police Headquarters has launched a criminal investigation into allegations of drink spiking at the Sziget Festival. The probe follows numerous social media reports claiming that attendees, primarily young women, became suddenly unwell and unresponsive after consuming drinks during a performance by DJ Oti (Balázs Sebestyén).

Witnesses have alleged that unknown individuals may have spiked drinks with substances such as GHB. Some reports suggest as many as 18 women were treated at a single medical point with similar symptoms. However, Sziget Festival organizers stated that out of more than 60,000 attendees, fewer than 100 required medical attention, and they have not recorded any drug-related cases.

The National Ambulance Service is also investigating the matter, specifically addressing claims regarding the quality of medical care and the communication provided to patients and their relatives. Some victims reported being treated dismissively by medical staff, with some being treated as if they had voluntarily consumed drugs.
