Székesfehérvár hosts Royal Days to honor Hungarian state foundation

Hungary observes significant cultural and religious traditions centered on the foundation of the state and the legacy of Saint Stephen. The Royal Days of Székesfehérvár will take place from August 14 to August 23, featuring a series of religious and historical events.

To mark the opening, a procession will carry relics of the Holy Family of Hungary—Saint Stephen, Blessed Gisela, and Saint Emeric—from the Bishop's Palace to the Basilica of Saint Stephen. Following a festive mass led by Bishop Antal Spányi, the relics will be moved to the National Memorial Site at the Medieval Ruin Garden. The festivities include historical reenactments, coronation games, international folk dance festivals, and concerts.

Additionally, August 20 serves as Hungary's official state holiday, commemorating the foundation of the nation and the memory of Saint Stephen. The date is historically linked to the 1083 canonization of the King. The holiday is characterized by traditions such as the celebration of new bread and the Holy Right procession, honoring the country's Christian heritage and historical roots.
