Székesfehérvár mayor announces long-term urban development plan
András Cser-Palkovics, the mayor of Székesfehérvár, has announced a long-term urban development program aimed at making the city Hungary’s best city by the year 2038, marking the millennium of Saint Stephen’s death.
The development plan is scheduled to be made public in October and will undergo a social debate involving local residents before the city council makes a final decision early next year. Key objectives include improving housing and existential prospects for youth, expanding road and public transport infrastructure, and launching mental health programs. The city also aims to apply for the title of European Youth Capital.
To fund these initiatives, the mayor emphasized the importance of local tax retention, suggesting that if the state allows the city to keep its locally generated taxes, it could provide an additional 10 billion HUF annually for the city and its agglomeration. The mayor noted that economic growth will be the primary driver for these projects.
