Hungary's rail and tram networks disrupted by switch faults and heat

On June 29‑30, 2026, several Hungarian public‑transport lines experienced service interruptions. In the Székesfehérvár main railway corridor a switch fault at Dinnyés forced trains onto a single track, extending travel times and prompting temporary bus replacements. Schedules for regional and intercity services such as the Z30, G43 and Balaton trains were altered, with some trains operating only between Budapest and Gárdony.

In Szeged the 3F tram line between Vadaspark and Fonógyári út was closed and substituted with buses, with full service expected to resume on June 30. A separate tram‑train (rail‑tram) line also suffered delays, causing 15‑30 minute lateness for some services.

Extreme heat across the country overheated several modern FLIRT motor‑trains, leading to cancellations of S36, Z30 and G43 services and speed restrictions on heated tracks. Transport authorities issued safety advice, distributed water to staff and urged passengers to travel only if necessary.
