Szpital Żywiec reports significant decline in birth numbers

Szpital Żywiec is experiencing a significant decline in the number of births. According to data provided by the hospital director, Małgorzata Świątkiewicz, the number of births dropped from 982 in 2021 to 820 in 2023. Projections indicate a continued downward trend, with the number expected to reach 636 in 2025.

Despite this decrease, the hospital management has stated they do not plan to close or suspend the gynecology and obstetrics department. Instead, the facility is working toward obtaining a second-degree referral status for its maternity and neonatal units to expand the level of care available to mothers and newborns.
