Szépművészeti Museum hosts major Paul Gauguin exhibition

The Szépművészeti Museum in Budapest has opened a large-scale exhibition titled “Bonjour Monsieur Gauguin: The Circles of Post-Impressionists and Symbolists.” The exhibition features 150 masterpieces, including 80 works by the French painter Paul Gauguin.

This event marks the first Gauguin retrospective in Central and Eastern Europe. The collection includes 32 works from the museum’s own collection, such as the painting “Black Pigs,” alongside pieces loaned from approximately 40 international institutions. Participating museums include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Musée d’Orsay, Van Gogh Museum, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.

The exhibition explores Gauguin’s life and artistic journey, highlighting his connections to contemporary artists and thinkers who influenced him or were inspired by his work. It will remain open to the public until February 28, 2027.
