Szymon Hołownia rejected as head of Polska 2050 parliamentary club
The Polska 2050 parliamentary club has rejected the candidacy of Szymon Hołownia to serve as its chairman. The decision, which required a unanimous vote from parliamentarians, follows months of internal tension within the group.
Hołownia, the former leader of the party and current Deputy Marshal of the Sejm, reportedly declared he would withdraw his efforts for the position following the rejection. He had sought to replace Paweł Śliz in the role. The move was viewed by some as an attempt to strengthen his political standing and facilitate closer cooperation between Polska 2050 and the Polish People's Party (PSL).
The leadership struggle occurs amidst broader shifts within the party, including the election of Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz as party leader and the subsequent formation of the Centrum club. Speculation remains regarding Hołownia's future role, with potential scenarios including a move into the government to hold ministerial positions, such as Minister of Funds and Regional Policy or Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
