Szymon Hołownia's plans to join Polish government collapse

Plans for Szymon Hołownia to join Donald Tusk’s government as deputy prime minister have reportedly collapsed. Coalition leaders have lost interest in the personnel move, which was intended to strengthen the government's center but instead faced internal opposition.

Key obstacles included Hołownia’s failure to regain control of the Polska 2050 parliamentary club, which is currently led by Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz. Without a disciplined parliamentary base, his potential role lacked the necessary negotiating leverage. Additionally, his perceived connections with President Karol Nawrocki, once viewed as a potential bridge for communication, have become a political liability for coalition partners.

As his prospects for a cabinet position diminish, reports suggest a shift toward a diplomatic career. Hołownia may seek the position of Polish Ambassador to the Holy See in the Vatican. While Prime Minister Tusk is reportedly not blocking this diplomatic path, the appointment would still require the signature of President Nawrocki, who has been withholding ambassadorial nominations for over a year.
