T. Harish Rao detained during protests in Hanumakonda
T. Harish Rao, a former Telangana Minister and BRS Deputy Leader, was detained by police on Thursday during protests in Hanumakonda. The detention occurred after Rao arrived at the Hanumakonda Collectorate to support both polytechnic students and government employees.
Students from Government Polytechnic College in Warangal have been protesting against Government Order (GO) 97, which involves the merger of polytechnic colleges with Young India Skills University. Additionally, the Telangana Non-Gazetted Officers (TNGOs) Association held a protest at the Collectorate regarding their own grievances.
Earlier in the day, police had placed Rao under house arrest at his residence in Hyderabad to prevent his travel to the protest sites. However, he managed to reach Hanumakonda. Following his detention, tensions rose at the Collectorate, leading to scuffles between BRS workers and police. Rao also criticized the current state government regarding pending Dearness Allowance installments and pension policies.
