T-MEC Terminal Puerto del Norte begins regular cargo operations

T-MEC Terminal Puerto del Norte has commenced regular operations in Matamoros, Mexico, beginning with the handling of aluminum trifluoride produced by Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials. The cargo travels approximately 84 kilometers by road from the Orbia plant to the terminal, where it undergoes reception, weighing, and operational controls before being stored for maritime transport to the port of Pecém, Brazil.

This movement marks one of the first industrial cargo flows connecting Tamaulipas's production with international maritime routes via this terminal. The terminal, formerly known as Terminal Marítima de Matamoros and owned by Mota-Engil México, is a multipurpose facility designed to serve general cargo, steel, minerals, and energy sectors due to its proximity to the U.S. border and industrial centers in Nuevo León and Coahuila.

Simultaneously, maintenance work is being conducted on the maritime infrastructure of the Port of Matamoros. Managed by Boskalis using the Crestway self-propelled hopper dredge, these maintenance tasks on the access channel and operational basin are scheduled to take place between September 18 and September 25, 2026.
