T. Narasipur sees tension over Ganesha procession disputes

Tensions rose in T. Narasipur following a dispute over alleged police restrictions on Ganesha festival celebrations. The controversy began after a video of Circle Police Inspector Dhananjaya issuing warnings to festival organisers regarding idol installation and immersion processions went viral.

Opposition Leader R. Ashoka, accompanied by Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Wadiyar and former MP Prathap Simha, visited the T. Narasipur Police Station to protest the alleged harassment of devotees. The visit drew thousands of supporters and Hindu activists, leading to demonstrations where protesters carried Ganesha idols on their heads. The gathering prompted police to deploy additional forces to maintain order.

Mysuru District Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi clarified that there are no restrictions on the traditional routes used for Ganesh processions. He stated that organisers are permitted to follow the same routes used in previous years and noted that the friction stemmed from a previous incident where a group proceeded without informing the police. Baladandi added that police have held peace meetings to prepare for the festival and ensure security.
